On Sunday 23rd September 4 members of Roffey Karate club achieved a milestone in their Karate lives. Alicia Smith passed her 2nd Dan and became the clubs first home grown 2nd Dan. Jake Gallard passed his 1st Dan almost 6 years to the day after starting his training. 2 Seniors, Paul Lucas and Paul Wilkinson, who have trained in other Karate styles also passed their 1st Dan grading in our style Wado-Ryu. It was an excellent grading by all the students. The grading lasted over 3 hours and all performed to a very good standard. The 2 seniors have both trained in other styles and this has made it harder as they have had to try to overcome instinct to ensure that they demonstrated Wado Ryu karate. Both achieved this consistently in all aspects of the grading. Jake Gallard has worked hard with several different partners, not always the easiest run up to a grading, and he achieved a really good pass mark performing some very good Kata. Alicia was under under a lot of pressure and expectation from her father and Instructor, made even more stressful for her because I am one and the same. For Alicia the pressure the run up to this grading has been really intense. I am extremely proud of her and the other three students who demonstrated commitment, spirit, determination and a great sense of teamwork. Well done. There will be more photos in the Gallery shortly
