As some of you will know a Dan (Black belt) Grading was held at Roffey on Sunday October 2nd. There were four students taking part, three going for 1st Dan and one for 3rd Dan. I am very pleased to say that all were successful. Roffey now has it's second 3rd Dan Sensei Colin Jackson, who assists with teaching at many classes. We also have three new Sensei's, Sensei Richard Fitton (who we won't see for a while as he had to leave straight after his grading to start life at Cambridge University) Sensei John Mathews and Sensei Darren Malpas both of whom turn up early on a Tuesday and help with the teaching. Congratulations to them all and a special thanks to Sensei Andy Coe (3rd Dan)for coming over from Hampshire to sit on the examination panel and also to Sensei Paul Lucas (2nd dan) who partnered Sensei Colin and took part in the Kumite section of the grading. The grading took almost 3 hours and consisted of 10 sections covering basics, blocks, kata as well as the presentation of a Kata Bunkai, self defence and kumite. I hope to put some photos up on the site very soon. Sensei Phil |

Sensei Andy Coe became the first student to train with Roffey karate club through to his 3rd Dan Black belt. what made this extra special for Andy was that is son Jamie also graded to 1st Dan Black belt at the same time. This brings the number of students to achieve their Black belt with Roffey to 22,and although some of these are not able or around to train at present there martial arts path started with Roffey Karate Club and their achievements with us will always be with them. This also shows that many of you have the focus and dedication to pursue a path which is often difficult, often painful and always demanding, but which creates in you a spirit that will always be of benefit and shows to the outside world just what you can achieve. So to those of you who are just starting on your Karate do journey I would say again that all of you have the ability to become a black belt, what you need is the belief that you can get there and the spirit to get there. I hope many of you will remember our Sponsored Press Ups for Charity back in 2010. We have revived this in 2012. Most of you have had sponsorship forms and I am sure you have been getting in some practice. In 2010 those taking part completed over 3000 pressups under the Instructors watchful eyes. I am sure we can beat that amazing total and raise even more money for Charity in 2012. I have handed out Sponsorship Forms so please try to get your friends and families to sponsor you. You can set your target so give yourself something to go for but don't make it impossible, it is like your Karate you need to have goals you can reach. The Press Ups will be taking place in classes over the 2 weeks from Saturday 25th February to Thursday 8th March. Please ensure you bring your sponsorship forms to those classes. If you have any queries please let me know. |
